I feel a change coming…

May 1, 2010 Leave a comment

I feel that this blog is about to shift direction….again, lol.

I am passionate about a lot of things in this life and I figure that I should spend my life leaning into all of my fears and doubts to pursue all of my passions. Why you may ask?

Simply because I cannot live with myself if I come to the end of my life and realize that I did not follow a dream that God placed in my heart simply out of fear, doubts, etc.. If I did not pursue it because I grew tired of it or no longer had the fire in my belly to pursue it — that would be fine. But to just hide myself away from my own dream(s) simply because I am scared??? Nope…not for me…not in this life. As long as the fire in my belly exists to express myself in this world, in a myriad of spaces, I will keep pushing myself. It is what keeps me going, lol…besides…I like leaning into the fear…it tastes sweet and feels amazing when you make your fear your friend, lol.

So is this blog really shifting? Not really…I guess…since at the core of it is the pursuit of one’s passions. I am currently pursuing one of my passions — helping to solve people’s problems within the space of social media. Is it feasible to pursue more than one passion at a time? I hope so…because that is just what I am about to do, lol.

“Making Ideas Happen” By Scott Belsky…

April 11, 2010 3 comments

So, I just recently received my copy of “Making Ideas Happen” by Scott Belsky, founder and CEO of Behance. I am sooo excited to read this book and review it because although I was staunch in my belief that all ideas have value, regardless of whether or not they are executed — I think this book might not only change my mind but it also looks like it might be a great companion for myself along my own journey to bring my ideas to fruition….I shall keep you posted!

And I have to read fast since this book will be released on this Thursday, April 15th…gotta go! LOL…

Where the hell is Matt?

I cannot believe I have never seen this full video until just now but it brought tears to my eyes and made me smile such a huge smile.

I think this guy Matt is pretty brilliant actually and I absolutely love what he did and how Stridegum.com helped him out.

Where the hell is Matt?

As I thought about his video, I thought about the value of inspiration and touching human lives. I thought about the deep importance of all of us connecting with each other, sharing with each other and learning from each other. I thought about the beauty of all of this and the deep value of inspiration — and how inspiration motivates people to be their authentic selves and contribute their full selves to the world. I mean, just look at the effect that Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture has had upon people everywhere. This man was talking about fulfilling your childhood dreams…and when are most like our full selves besides when we are children????

And I realized that if companies could understand this – they would never fail. If companies focused on helping people to fulfill their dreams, their passions, and their good intentions, they would literally be facilitators for inspiration. Literally. Am I demanding a tall order of companies? Yes, yes I am. But at this point in the world’s history, at this point where more and more people are way too aware of the possibility of being sold or scammed — doing the hard work and fulfilling this tall order is all that is left for companies. It is not impossible…it’s just hard.

So where the hell is Matt? Spreading inspiration and connecting with people everywhere….he is somewhere being authentically human.

I’m baaaaccckkk!

I’m baaaaccckkk! lol

I have so very much to share…and it has been a bit difficult for me to figure out where to begin…so here goes…

For the past month, I have been debating in what direction I should take this blog – should I use it as a platform for all of my digital marketing/communications geeky insights and ideas? Should I keep it as a place just to put all of my feelings, ideas, etc.? Should I merge both concepts? And if I do, will it make sense…will whoever is reading this understand that I have a passions for singing/writing/dancing/thoroughly expressing myself, motivating people and for finding solutions for people within the digital space? Would people get it all?

So, I have been hesistant to write or send my blog in the wrong direction…and I think I have figured things out, lol. I am going to leave it as it is. It continues to be a hodgepodge space for all of my passions, ideas, ups and downs because I need it to be that. I need it to be a space for me to be me, regardless of whether or not people get it. This space is where I lay myself out and find a space to fully and wholeheartedly express myself. So I figure, I will just keep it as it is and see what happens.

Besides, I think there is common thread in all of my passions – I like to help people. Be it by being a space for others to take steps towards their own dreams and passions or just that I am able to help someone better utilize the digital space…I am motivating people to be more, dream bigger and actually head down the path to manifest their dreams, ideas and passions. Do I sound like a fairy godmother or a naive, young woman? Maybe I do…but hey, its what works for me and what brings the ultimate level of joy to my heart.

So I toast this blog and my focus to press on with what resonates the most to me…and I am glad that I am finally back after my mini identity crisis, lol. Muah!

Five Trends Marketers and Ad Agencies Need to Keep in Mind – The Big Tent – Advertising Age

Five Trends Marketers and Ad Agencies Need to Keep in Mind – The Big Tent – Advertising Age

The victors in 2010 will be those who see in this challenging moment an opportunity to connect with the human spirit of reinvention, resilience and yes — hope.”

I am going to keep this post very, very short. The quote above indicates all that I feel about the future of this nation and this world — we are human beings first and foremost. We have forgotten that for a very, very long time. And I am just blessed and excited to be this young and growing up (personally & professionally) in a time where this realization is growing and re-emerging. To be a part of this consciousness…to participate in this understanding that we are human beings in all that we do (marketing, advertising, investing, teaching, experimenting, playing, laughing, whatever) is amazing, beautiful, frustrating and I pray, ultimately rewarding in the end in seeing how this world shapes up.

I am hopeful. That is all I have left to say. πŸ˜‰

How To Be An Innovator For Life

January 8, 2010 Leave a comment

This video has been very inspiring and self-affirming to me. Tom Kelley, the general manager at IDEO, is so energetic and fun to listen to during his speech. He made some excellent points about how one can cultivate one’s creativity — which I agree with him is the key to having fun in this life (or at least that is my take on it). Anyhoo, I believe that we are all here on this Earth to grow and become our more authentic selves. Now, maybe not all of us are ready for this but I do believe a lot of people are striving for it — what with all of the proclaimed searches for the meaning in life or for one’s passion, etc. And I think creativity goes a very, very long way to helping people to grow and get closer to their authentic selves. But I digress…I really just wanted to share this great video…soo, without further adieu… πŸ™‚

How To Be An Innovator For Life

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, I have posted the link to the video above, but for those of you who may not have the time to watch/listen to the whole video…below is my outline of all of the main points that Mr. Kelley discussed. Hope it makes you smile and reminds you to cultivate your creativity.
Five Ways To Be An Innovator For Life:
1. Think like a traveler –> Be more aware and notice everything…be mindful to see with fresh eyes instead of assuming there is nothing to see.
2. Treat life as an experiment –> Be willing to fail and take risks…fail forward, learn and keep growing…it helps you build your self-confidence
3. Having an attitude of wisdom –> Have a healthy balance of confidence in what you know and a good sense of distrust in what you know to keep yourself constantly yearning to learn more.
4. Use your whole brain and use your tortoise brain –> Do not just rely on your left or right brain…use the whole brain and see yourself as a whole individual with both sides. Your tortoise brain is that mind that is not completely under your direct control and allows you to contemplate, reflect, etc. — the tortoise brain is the one that you access when you are daydreaming or sleeping…let it work for you by actively connecting with it.
5. Follow your passion –> Do what you love not just because it is a phrase you have heard constantly but because you will be better at it. When you follow your passion, you are willing to put in more energy and time to manifest it. Lastly, think of what you are good at, what you are born to do, what you will be paid for and who you will be working with even when following your passion(s) –> Kelley was sure to mention this because if you are following your passion & the other qualifiers all fall into place, it can still be ruined byΒ those who you work with.
As Kelley said, it’s ok to be an artist! πŸ™‚
Another Passion Pinned Down…A Thousand More To Go…
January 6, 2010 Leave a comment
Don’t you love when you discover something about yourself that you realized you have known all along?
Well, sometimes, it does not feel so great because then you think why didn’t you figure this out sooner — but hey, I figure, everything happens in due time.
Anyways, I have another passion pinned down — writing. I have been writing since I was a little girl…writing my little unfinished short stories to writing persuasive political and english papers and now writing my every day thoughts on life, love, human expression, growth, authenticity and creativity. And it feels really, really, really good each time I write. It feels great in fact. It lifts whatever burdens I may be feeling off of my chest and it allows me to connect with whoever is out there, who just might be reading and possibly learning something from what I am writing.
I know a lot of what I write may seem redundant or circuitous in its content, but I figure I have to keep going round in circles until things begin to stick (ie: my discovery that maybe I should be doing something more with my writing, lol). Besides, I am only 24 years old and I have got a lot more growing to do — at least that is what I am told. And yet, sometimes, I don’t think I am growing fast enough. Patience is a virtue, right? LOL…
Anyways, just wanted to share — it is time to start doing more with my passion for writing…it is finally time. Hope you all are having a great day. πŸ™‚
